Cut It! - Reduce your paper use...

Year after year trillions of sheets of paper are printed, read, and discarded by schools, businesses, the government, and households. Paper is a contemporary reality, but we're unnecessarily addicted to singled-sided and big portions. Cut your appetite!

Why Reduce?

• Trillions of sheets of paper are printed on, read, and thrown away each day.

• More than 30 million square acres are lost annually to deforestation.

• Over 40% of logged trees are used for paper.

• Each year the world produces over 300 million tons of paper!

Here is what YOU can do to reduce YOUR paper appetite and YOUR carbon footprint:

• Print double sided: If your printer doesn't have this setting, print the odd pages first, put them back in the printer, and print the even pages.

• Adjust the margin widths and line spacing on your computer, and use an efficient font size. A document that is double-spaced and copied on one side uses four times as much paper as one that is single-spaced and duplexed.

• Digitally edit. Instead of re-printing each time you want to edit, do your editing on the computer.

• Junk Mail. U.S households receive over 90 billion pieces of junk mail each year. Eliminate this, and you can save hundreds of trees Call companies, and remove your name from their lists or visit www. A five-second conversation can save hundreds of trees!

• Distribute memos through email: Promote paperless communication.

• Use scrap paper for drafts or notepaper.

• Eliminate cover and dividing pages. It's the content of your work that counts.

Especially for students:

• Save your handouts: Keep them in a reusable binder or folder. Do not use them for paper airplanes or leave them behind in classrooms. • Encourage your classmates: Call attention to paper reducing suggestions. Make it cool to reduce at your school.

Instead of contributing to deforestation, join us in reduction and reforestation!
